Sunday evening it looked like things were shaping up for a nice sunset so I asked my dad if he wanted to drive over to the Sepulveda Dam to check it out. It was a bit chilly (at least it was with shorts on), but we stood there and watched the show. A fitting end to a great day.
On Saturday my family and I drove down to Laguna to meet the-talented-picture-taking Susan and her family. Up til now we've been blog buddies but had never met in person. Long story short, they were awesome and we had a great time hanging out with them. If you haven't been to Susan's blog, you should definitely check it out. And if you want the longer story and some more pictures from the day, head over to my wife's blog.
Here are two of my favorite images from the day.

First, let me start by saying how meaningful all the comments and well-wishes on my last post were. I am encouraged not only about my future prospects, but also about expressing myself in a deeper way in this blog. Thank you all again for your support and encouragement.
I was looking back through some of my images from Ethiopia and thought I'd have a go and converting some of them to black and white. I have much to learn about these conversions, but I sure am enjoying the challenge. The first image is on the road from Awassa to Addis Ababa. The second two are from the main train station in Addis.

Well, I found out on Tuesday that I was losing my full time gig. I've been thrown into a very crowded freelance environment with an ever shrinking number of projects. But I have my wife. I have my family. I have my health. I have good friends. This was a surprise certainly, but I believe now that it is a catalyst to move me in a new direction. I wanted to make an image that represented my initial feeling and my outlook now. Despair to Hope. God is good.

The theme over at I Heart Faces this week is "Creative Crop". This was done in-camera and my suggestion is to not be afraid to get wacky with your perspective.
Since I am a Friday Fix-It contributor, I know I'm not eligible to win the contest this week...but I still wanted to join in just for the fun of it! Please go check out all of the other great faces at I Heart Faces and try out the weekly fun yourself.

The Pomona Car Swap is an outdoor car show/car sale/parts sale held at the Fairgrounds in, not surprisingly, Pomona. I went there one other time with a friend of mine, and I've been wanting to go back for quite some time. Since my parents are out visiting I thought this would be a great time to hang out with my dad and check out some sweet rides. My dad's a car guy from back in the day so he knew all the different makes and models of the classic cars. It was also my first chance to try out my wide angle lens that I got mainly for car photography. The lens did great, but I still have a lot to learn. Of course, when learning's this fun, I hardly notice!

I found what I think is a wedding decoration sitting out on the front steps of someone's house the other day. It seemed so out of context sitting outside, seemingly not wanted but not actually thrown away.
I couldn't decide whether I liked the black and white or color version better.
