Rain or shine

I decided at the last minute to run over to the aiport a few evenings ago. The rain had let up for a bit and I wanted to see if I could get anything interesting with the setting sun lighting the planes on takeoff. In the end I didn't get any interesting take off images, but watching the fast moving clouds go by was sure worth the trip. Yet again, my effort to just get out and take pictures was rewarded with some beautiful moments.

Rise again

A slightly different take on the moon rise from the other evening. On a technical note, this image as well as the previous moon image are a combination of three different exposures. I didn't have a filter with me to balance out the bright moon and sky with the dark land, so I took the different exposures to capture the whole range of the scene. The end result is very close to how I saw it on the day.

Blue rose

Roses seem to grow like weeds here in Southern California. Even though we trimmed ours completely back just a few months ago, they are already starting to bloom again. This is the first bloom of the year, and I couldn't pass up the chance to capture it. I did a small crop on this and inverted the colors.

Moon rise

I went back to one of my favorite places to catch the sunset yesterday. It's been pretty rainy here lately, but it let up around mid afternoon. The sunset turned out to be less than spectacular, but when I checked the other side of the hill I was greeted with the most beautiful moon rise I had ever seen. It was so sublime with the broken clouds and shades of pink. I kept shooting even long after it made sense to, because I wanted to capture every change. It was very cold and windy, but worth every second.

Golden Getty #2

With a 15 foot stone bench as a tripod, I was able to capture this scene.

Golden Getty

I was really inspired by my last visit to the Getty and I decided to go back and see what it looked like at night. I was very disappointed to find out that I couldn't bring my tripod (especially since I walked all the way the tram station with it). I had to default to using any flat surface I could find to support my camera for the long exposures. It was a challenge and I came away with some images that I'm happy with. Beyond capturing images though, it was awesome to be there at night with the place all lit up and sparkling like a jewel.

Snowy sunset

An image from my recent excursion up to Mt. Wilson to check out the snow. You could see the snow on the mountains quite clearly from the Valley and I wanted to see it up close. I took this on my way down the mountain at a little turnout. It was so awesome to see the snow and witness this beautiful sunset.

Moody sky with frame

It's been pretty rainy here lately and this makes for some moody skys. I love finding things to put against the sky and framing these clouds is even better.

Textured Water

This is very appropriate for the current weather outside as it is coming down in buckets. Two guesses as to what this is a picture of. I love the texture and depth here, helped by the early evening sun.

Good Night Getty

My last image from the Getty, for now. This is a four image stitch looking south towards LAX and out towards the ocean. Definitely worth clicking on to see the larger size.

Big boy

My boy is growing up so fast. He was talking about how beautiful the Getty was and how we should come back in the Spring when everything is in bloom. He asked really insightful and serious questions about the art and sculpture around the museum. He also climbed on rocks and stuck his hands in any water he could find to see if it was cold. And he was proud to be taking pictures with his daddy. His daddy was proud too.
