What the heck is Old Angzine?

First and foremost, welcome to 2009. Being on the West Coast means I'm a bit later to the game than some, but nevertheless, here we all are. 2008 was great, but I'm looking forward to an even better and more exciting 2009. I thank all of my faithful readers (you two should get together) and I will endeavor to be a more prolific post-er this year.

About the picture above. You give a guy a camera, a dark room and a Harry Potter light up wand and this is the result. There is a lot of trial and error with this technique and that certainly held true for me. I took the words one at a time then stitched them together in Photoshop. And then, as my old Chief Technician would say, your mother's a man.

Lower falls

What can I say, Yosemite's a beautiful place. If you're looking for some scale, there are 3 or 4 people climbing on the rocks below the falls. It might be Lower Yosemite Falls, but small it isn't.

For my boy

Here's how I spent most of my oldest son's birthday.

At 1,034 pieces this is the largest Lego set I've put together. Total time between sorting all of the pieces and construction was right about 4 hours. The look on his face when I was done (and really the rest of the day) made it totally worth it. It's the Republic Attack Gunship in case you're interested. Oh, yes the quality is pretty bad but I was pleased with A: my first attempt at a timelapse and B: the output from an iSight camera.

Christmas present

My very thoughtful wife gave me the Nik Software plug-in Silver Efex Pro for Christmas. This thing is wicked awesome for doing any type of black and white work. Of course I've already used it to work up a picture I took in Yosemite along Bridalveil Creek. Please to enjoy.

Dam evening

Back at one of my favorite places to go when the evening sky looks interesting. As you can tell, it was jammed with people. ; )

I'm so lucky to get to live each day with this lady. Oh, and she looks mighty fine in purple.

Big finish

I saw that things were shaping up for a color 'splosion this evening so I hopped in my ride and drove to one of my favorite spots. I guess the color didn't really 'splode, but it was pretty fantastic anyway. If you want to see it bigger (and trust me, you do) click here.

Seems normal to me

Ok, three things. First, yes that is a purple Christmas tree with purple lights. Second, yes that is me in shorts and short-sleeved t-shirt. And third, yes I did take this today.

Valley view

It was such an awesomely clear day on Sunday and you could see the entire San Fernando Valley. This is a series of twelve images that I took from the courtyard of my church. For a larger version, click here.

Sacrifices made

I know, I know I'm a bit late on my Veteren's Day post, but I had a sudden case of falling asleep last night. The main reason for that is because I got up early to get down to the Los Angeles National Cemetary. I've driven by there for about 8 years and I keep telling myself that I should pay a visit on Veteren's or Memorial Day and yesterday it finally came together.

There was no ceremony or other commemerative event at the cemetary so I was able to just take my time walking through the grounds. It was very peaceful and kind of overwhelming at times. I tried to capture both the serenity and scope of the place, in my own way honoring those who have served and are serving our country.

Sunset with Dad

My parents are out visiting and I thought I would take my dad to one of my favorite places to catch the sunset. It was pretty windy and quite cool, but totally worth the trip.

Outside my front door

Not the most elegant images, but I just had to share this beautiful sunset. The range and intensity of color was amazing. An awesome sight to see just outside my front door.
