Elluring

Howdy all! Hope everyone had a great holiday. Christmas was enjoyed by all here. Gifts were given, wrapping paper destroyed, boxes were played with. Here's a lil' somethin' to get the pictures flowin' again. I really dug this concept car from Nissan. Taken at the L.A. Auto show, of course.

Merry Chirstmas!!

A very Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope this day finds you enjoying time with your family and/or friends. Once I break out of the great wrapping paper mountain, I'll be enjoying our heated pool spa. Love California! By the way, the "lens" in the picture is actually a mug that my beautiful wife bought me for Christmas.

Happy Birthday!

I want to wish a Happy Birthday to the most beautiful daughter I could have ever hoped for. I love you sweet pea.

Christmas in Cali

This is the main picture for our family Christmas card this year. We thought we would should the things that we suffer living here in So Cal. ;) I get the best looks from my kids when I just count to 3 and tell them to do something crazy.

Use what you got

I've decided to make this week iPhone picture week. All iPhone all the time. At least for this week. I also want to drive home the idea of "the best camera is the one you have with you". Camera phones have evolved to a point where they are easily competing with point and shoot cameras. I find myself using my phone in many instances where I would've use my point and shoot in the past. It's not only the improved picture quality and control over exposure, but also the ability to edit and share right from the same device. Many times while I'm out shooting with my big camera, I will take some iPhone pictures too just so I can share them right away. Whatever your capturing images with, push yourself to be creative and show people the world through your eyes.

Rays from a train

Aaaaannnndddd...I'm back. Whew, what a crazy week I had last week. I went from having only one day of work to working almost 4 days solid. Lots of late nights, but cool people and interesting projects. I did a little Christmas photo session with the kids yesterday, which I'll be sharing a little closer to the day. It was rough, being that it was 85 degrees and they were in the pool. ;)

Today's image comes courtesy of my iPhone and a train. The clouds and mountains were so beautiful on the day we took a train ride in Fillmore. There's something about riding on a train that is so peaceful and relaxing. Have a great week!

Green Hornet

I can't wait for this movie! I saw this car at the L.A. Auto Show and I knew I wanted to take it home and slap it around in Photoshop. I know it's gonna be awesome in the movie, driving around blowing things up. Thus, my tribute to hornet who is green.

Joyful Abandon

My boys enjoying the beach and the sunset in Carmel.

Joyful Abandon

Seen from a car

I rarely go to downtown L.A. Even rarer still is going to downtown and not being the driver. On the way home from the auto show, my dad was driving so I got to do some sightseeing of L.A. at night. It just so happens that it was around 5 p.m. and the traffic was, ah, not moving very quickly. Ok, it was stop and go. Mostly stop. I had time to think, "Pretty buildings. Sure would be great to take a picture of them." Being the quick thinker that I am, I grabbed my fancy schmancy camera and took some pictures out the open window. Most of them were crappy (surprise) but a few turned out a'ight. Here's my fav.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a relaxing weekend. We had a great, low key time at my parents house. I got this shot while my mom was setting the table, and I loved the simplicity of it.

L.A. Auto Show 2010

I spent almost the entire day at the L.A. Auto Show with my dad, and it was awesome! We had a great time looking at and talking about cars new and old. I am an unabashed car lover, so this is like a candy store for me. I'm not a car fix-it guy, but I look at beautiful cars as rolling works of art. I love the details and precision, the beauty and strength. Man, I sound like a fairy or something. Anyway, I went, I saw, I took pictures. Here's a few of my favorites.

Get Gas

While visiting Monterery (yes there will be posts that don't include Monterey) my cousin and his wife, along with their beautiful baby, took us to a great mexican restaurant. No, I don't remember the name of it, because, well, I have trouble remembering stuff. Sometimes I have my kids wear name tags. Anyway, I thought the outside of the place was pretty photogenic so I took this picture. See, I can have a post about Monterey/Carmel that doesn't include water!

These gas pumps don't work, but I had no problem getting gas inside the restaurant. ;)

TWA flies again

This DC-3 was beautifully restored by veteran pilot Clay Lacy. He brought it back to luxury airline condition as it would have been when it was flown for TWA. I love living in a place where I can walk out my front door and see such awesome aircraft. Van Nuys airport FTW!

It's terrible, but I don't remember that name of these creatures. I think they're some kind of anemone, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I thought they looked cool, so let's call them Awesome Anemone.

Turmoil of the Sea

Mmmm, long exposures. So many cool things can happen when you point your camera at something cool and just leave the shutter open for a while. I've long admired the ghostly looking water in other people's images, so when I saw this view from the balcony of my hotel room, I had to give it a try.

There's lots of trial and error that goes into getting an image like this. The exposure here was about 4 seconds, and I waited until a big wave crashed on the rock in the middle. I took about 10 other shots that were pretty blah, but it all came together on this one. Experiment. You might come up with something cool!

Negative Space

I find jellyfish endlessly fascinating. Their movements seem so random, but they always get where they're going. Or maybe they don't really have any place to go, and they're just happy wherever they end up.

Back at last

I apologize for the long absence, but work kinda snuck up on me. I'm back with a full week of new images though! I generally try to vary the subject of my images during the week, but this week I definitely found myself drawn to watery images. Maybe this has something to do with my recent trip to Monterey and Big Sur. ;) So you can look forward to images of the sea and the creatures that live within it. To kick things off, here's an image from Big Sur around that delectable time of day. Delectable? Yeah, good light seems tasty to me.

The 17 Mile drive between Monterey and Carmel is just specatcular. Beautiful rugged coastline and some pretty stunning homes. Yep, it was cold. My poor Southern California body could hardly stand it! ;)

Yes Sur

We took a beautiful drive yesterday down Highway 1 to Big Sur. This is some of the most spectacular coastline in all of California. I've wanted to go there ever since I moved out to Los Angeles, but never got around to it. Check it off the list baby! The weather was perfect and the traffic was light. To top it off, we found this awesome place to eat called the Restaurant at Ventana. If you're ever in the Big Sur area, you owe it to yourself to try it out. Heading home tomorrow. :( This trip has just made me want to come back again and explore.

Sunset Greetings

Greetings from beautiful Carmel-by-the-sea, California. We're actually staying in Monterey, but drove over to Carmel to see the sunset. This is our first trip here and we have been blown away so far. Tomorrow we are headed to the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium for a full day of looking and learning. Later I'll try to post a picture of the view from our room. (Spoiler: it's awesome)

Unclear

Today I'm heading to a place I've never been. 2 hints: it's in California and I'm driving. Probably doesn't narrow it down very much. ;) As soon as I get a decent picture (or two) from there, all will become clear.

Is it Friday already? It's almost Halloweeny time! I'm dressing up as a monk. You? My wife and I are going to some swanky Halloween/magic/dancing grown up party tonight. My wife's gonna be an enchantress. She's certainly enchanted me. Stop groaning.

San Diego Bay Panorama

What an awesome day this was! My family and I drove out to Point Loma to see the Cabrillo monument and the historic light house. A bonus prize for this trip was one of the best views of San Diego and the Bay that you can find. Took me a lot longer to put this together on my computer than it did to take it! Leaning Lighthouse

This is the historic lighthouse on Point Loma in San Diego. The original structure was built in 1855 and has been renovated several times. It's no longer used, but it's an awesome place to visit and the views of San Diego are stunning. I was lucky to be there on an overcast day to capture and image I had been kicking around in my head for a while. I love how the trees have been bent by the constant wind coming in from the Pacific. Using an extremely wide angle lens distorted the lighthouse so it too seems bent from the wind.

Have a great weekend!

Sorry about the late posting today, I was wiped out last night. Hope everyone is having a non cloudy day today!
