This was taken in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia while I was walking around an open air market. The girl and her friend had been following me for a while, curious about what I was doing. Finally, she approached me and indicated through gestures that she wanted her picture taken. As soon as I started to take her picture, kids began gathering around me wanting to be a part of what was going on. They giggled and shouted while I took her picture. When she finally saw her image on the back of the camera she gave me a huge smile and and gestured that she was very appreciative. I got the feeling that she had never seen a picture of herself before. I felt grateful and honored that I could give that to her.
