So I've been thinking (go ahead have your laugh), I need to do something about the inequalities in the world. I know this sounds like big thinking, but hear me out. I want to help out in some way that could have the greatest impact. What's the most basic thing we all need? Water. Clean water. An organization called charity:water is doing exactly that. I first became aware of them when TV star Alyssa Milano started a campaign to build several wells in Ethiopia. It costs $5,000 to build a well, and she raised over $90,000. Amazing.
Many of your were so generous with my Haitian Relief fund raiser and we sent $350 to support the Red Cross' efforts down there. Thank you all again. My goal is a bit higher this time, but things are already off to a good start. $20 will provide clean water for 1 person for 20 years. My goal is to raise $2,011 which will provide 100 people with clean water for 20 years. The money goes directly to them, and 100% of it goes towards building wells to provide clean water. While I could not specify which country I wanted the money to go to, most of their efforts are still focused on Ethiopia. And having adopted our daughter from Ethiopia, that country is very near to our hearts.
Oh, I almost forgot the most fun part! The pictures at the top of the post might seem a bit odd, but I will explain. As an incentive to reach the goal, I have decided to lay my hair on the line. At least the color of it. If we reach the goal of $2,011, I will color my hair blue. Not a light blue or just a little bit of hair. All of it. Electric blue. Boo boo boogaloo.
I have created a page where you can learn more about what charity:water does and make a donation. Click here to check it out. Now let's help some people out who are in need AND get my hair all blued up!
