Pretty lady
I went on a great hike with an old friend yesterday. We've been up this mountain many times, but each time is unique an memorable it it's own way. The weather was beautiful and the recent rains have really greened things up. Can't wait for the lupin and mustard to start blooming!

Cloudscape
I've been wanting to try another time lapse, but I keep saying to myself, "oh, if only I was this place or that place it would be cool." Well hey! Why not try one right outside my back door? So that's what I did. Two things you might notice. One, we have A LOT of air traffic. And two, yes we still have our Christmas tree up. Hey, we're festive. Enjoy. Oh, and please click on HD, it's much better.

Hey, its snow!
After all the rain last week, Saturday dawned clear and cold. It was a welcome change after all the flooding in many areas, and the best part was seeing the powdered sugar dusting of snow on our local mountains. This image shows some of the same mountains that were badly burned in last year's Station Fire. This is a panorama stitched from 11 images. For the bigger version, click here.

Revisited
This is a shot I took a while back, but I reworked it with some new techniques and I like it much better!

Haitian Relief
After seeing and hearing of all the devastation in Haiti, I started thinking of a way I contribute to the relief effort. I thought that I am an image maker and those should be able to help in some way. So, with the help of my talented wife, we set up a website that will not only allow you to donate to the Red Cross, but get an image or images of choice. Head over to haitianrelief.blogpost.com, make a donation and then pick from the nearly 100 images I've provided. Every penny will go to the Red Cross and you'll have a photo to keep. Not a bad deal.

Night in the Gaslamp
I'm back, and San Diego was fantastic! We got a smokin' deal through Hotwire to stay at the US Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. The hotel was great and the location was awesome. We were able to walk to so many great places and the drives we took were all pretty short. We've never spent much time in the downtown area so it was great to explore. If you're ever in the San Diego area and have kids, I highly recommend the New Children's Museum. This was my older son's highlight of the trip. We also visited the Wild Animal Park. I was a bit underwhelmed 'cuz it just seemed like a zoo with bigger enclosures. The weather was beautiful the whole time, so that was the icing on the cake. All in all, pretty fantastic.
Our hotel was located in the Gaslamp District. Lots of cool restaurants, clubs and theaters in this area. All of these places draw quite a few people on the weekends, so I went out on Saturday to capture some of the action. Enjoy. Oh, and as always, click on HD for video muy bueno.

Mini vacation
Today I'm taking the family down to San Diego for a few days. It's a mini-vacation of sorts before I dive back into work. Looking forward to a change of scenery and quality time with the people I love most in the world. I may or may not be posting while we're there. How's that for definitive! But if you want to keep up with what I'm doing and get some iPhone shots along the way, follow me at twitter.com/fxmixer.
Here's a favorite image of mine from our last visit to San Diego.

Near East
While my van was in for service, I took a little subway ride down to the Hollywood and Highland area and did some photographin' for a few hours. This area's undergone a real freshening up in the past few years. The Kodak theater, where the Oscars are held, is here as well as Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The weather was perfect, the skies were perfect, and I got there early enough that very few people were out yet. Here're a few images from the day.

Sunset Timelapse
Howdy all! How's 2010 treatin' ya? I waited all of about 16 hours into the new year before I had to go try out my new Christmas present, the Canon TC80N3 Timer Remote Control. Sexy name huh? The gist of it is, you can take pictures at regular intervals without having to connect to anything else. I've taken timelapse sequences with my DSLR before (like this one) but I had to have my camera connected to my laptop and control it with my iPhone. Pretty cumbersome setup, and my laptop always ran out of juice before anything else. Well, this little baby solves that problem, and now all I need to do these kinds of shoots fits in one small bag.
This timelapse shows the first sunset of the new year, and boy was it a doozy! All the technical info after the video. Oh, and do me a favor. Please click on the HD button for optimal viewing experience.
This video is made up of 2154 images shot over an hour and fifty minutes or so. I had it set to take an image every three seconds. I assembled the images in Quicktime 7 then exported a 1080p HD video to Final Cut Pro and finished the edit there. I am so excited about being able to basically shoot High Def video with my still camera! I ask for your patience as I go through this phase of shooting everything in timelapse. ;)
Hope you enjoyed it, and have a great Monday!
Biltmore Hotel
This is the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. I did the old HDR routine on it and converted it to black and white. Have a great Sunday!
